His teaching research range over geography Middle Eurasia covers themes empire, international relations, nationalism, geopolitics, ethnic confl ict, religion culture. He author Shattering Empires: The Clash Collapse Ottoman Russian Empires, 1908-1918 (Cambridge University Press, 2011), co-winner 2011 Historical Association’s George Louis Beer Prize, a Financial Times book summer, Choice outstanding academic title. editor Constellations Caucasus: Peoples, Faiths (Markus Weiner, 2016). also writes on contemporary issues related to Turkey, Russia, Caucasus region U.S. foreign policy. writings have appeared Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, National Interest, War Rocks, among other venues. holds PhD from MA Political Science Columbia.
